Run #1737 The heritage trail Run Report

The Heritage Run

In the middle of the 18th century, immigrants from central Vietnam brought the craft of lacquerware making to Dong Nai and the Gia Dinh region, including Tuong Binh Hiep Village. At the beginning, there were just a few households specializing in the art form some of whom also included gold inlaying into the products. Over time, the artisans of Tuong Binh Hiep Village became well-known all around the southern part of Vietnam. Many generations later, the traditional lacquerware craft of Tuong Binh Hiep continues to grow. The products are the pride of not only the village, but also a cultural heritage of the nation.

Though she might not be an actual lacquerware artisan, the Saigon Hash’s very own In and Out lays claim to this heritage. This is where her family grew up and where Sunday’s Hash Run # 1,737 was located. It was a run in celebration of the arts. In and Out was the Hare together with Miss Money Penny and the youngest Hasher of the day, Piano Grande. It was a wonderful Hash run with two, count ‘em, TWO beer stops. The first beer stop was after just a few minutes of running. It was at In and Out’s home. The second beer stop was a more traditional café location and about two kilometers from the end. The walkers joined the first beer stop and were apparently 100 meters from the second, but didn’t get a beer. What a tragedy!

The trail was amid temples, rice fields, animal life (not just barking dogs), and lots and lots of greenery. It was a beautiful trail. The local TV news crew from Binh Duong was in attendance at the beginning filming the crazy Hashers who like to run/walk in the heat of the day. It was a solid run of around eight kilometers and a walk or around five.

The Hares were iced a couple of times for not allowing the walkers a second beer stop and for other reasons that this scribe cannot remember. The Scribe was iced for demanding that the Hares be iced. How did that happen?

Thanks Hares for a wonderful Sunday in Binh Duong. Just FYI. The Binh Duong will be celebrating its 10 year anniversary from October 18 to 20. It will be a grand party in Thu Dau Mot with a few runs. Mark your calendars today!
